Empowerment and Livelihoods (EL)
IDIWA aims to improve financial security and resilience of women and girls with disabilities and their families, as well as their knowledge, access to and confidence in ownership and utilization of economic resources, through vocational training, agriculture, on-farm and off farm income generating activities and small-scale businesses. IDIWA implements Community Based Rehabilitation Approaches education, vocational training, and medical rehabilitation enable children and young persons with disabilities achieve their full potential and contribute to community and national development.
Impact
- IDIWA distributed 1000 goats to enable women and girls with disabilities to build back their livelihoods and recover better from the effects of COVID-19 through goat rearing
- Supported 16000 Children with disabilities with medical treatment and rehabilitation, and provision of assistive technology to enhance mobility enabling them to access school independently
- Provided educational support for children and young persons with disabilities and 17000 have completed different educational levels and graduated with university diplomas and degrees; 65 young persons with disabilities have been placed for internship and volunteer jobs, while 23 are gainfully employed in government and private enterprises and own businesses
- Supported formation of 27 parents/caregivers’ support groups, and linked them to government anti-poverty programs and other resources in their communities. This has enabled them to provide basic necessities for their children with disabilities
